Ironman R2O FuelBelt

Monday, March 16, 2015

I've been searching for a better way (for me) to hydrate during long runs and be able to easily access any nutrients that I may need for refueling. Most of my running clothes do not have pockets large enough for the few pretzels or gels that I need when I'm out on a long run. I also despise running with a bottle of water in hand. I tend to dehydrate easily - so leaving it at home isn't an option for me. I also don't ruck every run, so I don't always have that extra space for items.

The Ironman R2O FuelBelt came in handy on its first use this past weekend. Though its trial run was on the treadmill, it held up for the 13.2 mile run. I had worried that the Velcro closure wouldn't hold up to the inclines and general bouncing around but it did just fine.

Details

  • Fully adjustable elastic stretch waistband for a customized, comfortable no-bounce fit and Velcro closure
  • Revenge holster design provides for single handed entry and exit
  • Removable pocket with zipper for gels, keys, cash or up to iPhone sized electronics
  • Breathable thermoform backing wicks moisture away and keeps you cool
  • Two ergonomic, leak proof, dishwasher safe and BPA-free 7 oz bottles included

I had hoped that the pocket would be large enough to hold my cell phone in case I wanted to switch from placing the phone in an armband and putting it in the belt instead. The pocket is not large enough to hold a cell phone unless your smart phone. If your phone isn't a smart phone then it may work. Though it couldn't hold the phone - it did hold the few items that I need for refueling during a long run. The zipper was smooth, didn't snag or cause any problems while opening and closing.

The holster for the water bottles were also easy to maneuver. The bottles slide in and out with ease yet the bottles are gripped firmly enough to keep them in place during the run. I also enjoyed the padding on the the belt that separated me from the water bottles.

I do wish that this belt had a place to attach a race bib. Though I find most races (races, not runs in general) over a 10K to be boring - I'll do them every once in a while and it would be handy to be able to hang the bib from the belt.

100 No-Equipment Workouts

Saturday, February 7, 2015

I'm not one who enjoys paying for a gym membership, driving to a gym, waiting for gym equipment, cleaning up at the gym and then heading home. I most enjoy workouts that can be done sans the hassle of a gym. Which is why I buy a lot of my own equipment! There are also times when I'd just prefer not to use equipment or don't have it available to me.

The 100 Workouts Book is for everyone who wants to stay active, get fit, build muscle tone and/or shed extra weight in the home environment without acquiring any extra equipment. Different workouts, some are more challenging and some are easier than others, will ensure that your muscles don't get used to the same regime, giving you more in return, and also help you stay active and not get bored with the same routine. Visual routines are designed to guide you through the workout, as you go from one exercise to the next, in an easier fashion than in a video. Just follow the routine and have fun! You don't have to work through the entire book; you can pick the workouts you like most or randomly select one and make it a workout of the day. Ideally you want to do 3-4 workouts per week.

What we love

  • It's easy to follow.
  • It's travel friendly!
  • Wide variety of workouts.

What others are saying

"This book, along with her website, offers great work outs with a wide variety of exercises. Easy to pick up and with different levels, each work out feels like a person work out design by a professional fitness coach."

They also look like the perfect pair for a Color Run! Check out the 7 additional designs.

Designed to defy convention and engineered for ultimate performance, the GEL-Kinsei series continues to break the mold by delivering maximum comfort and the latest technology. Each component now works even better together and with the runner’s foot. The advanced platform is now built with FluidRide construction and the new modern upper creates a nearly seamless construction, improving comfort and fit as it moves and bends with the foot through every mile.

ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill

Thursday, January 22, 2015

A few years ago, we burned out our treadmill. I say 'burned out' because while in use, it would begin to give off a burning rubber smell and give a slight electrical shock if you reach down to touch the equipment while running/walking on it. That was quite an experience. It had been a great find at a yard sale. It lasted for a few years and had actually been free as the current owner thought it didn't work. So, we hauled it home and plugged it in. It worked fine for a few years. It was worth it, I guess.

After it died on us, we dismantled it and moved on. We simply began to run on the road or use my parent's treadmill. That wasn't always convenient but it worked.

Recently, we've been using the ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill. What do we like most about it? Well, we love that it isn't anything like our previous treadmill! Our biggest need from a treadmill is that it be capable of the miles that we would demand of it. At least one of us is on it everyday.

Pro 2000 Treadmill. Step into the revolutionary world of interactive training with iFit technology with the Pro 2000 Treadmill! Access unlimited workouts built by a certified personal trainer, map your route with Google Maps, track your progress automatically, compete with friends and customize your workouts. For faster results, measure your daily progress with our 7-inch backlit display while you access 32 workout apps, QuickSpeed, Quick Incline and Quick Decline controls. Instructions included. Customer assembly required. Lifetime frame and motor warranty, 5-year parts warranty and 2-year labor warranty. Materials: Steel/PVC Dimensions: 80" L x 40" W x 63" H Weight: 230 lbs

The Pro 2000 is leaps and bounds more useful than our previous unit.  It allows us to vary our workouts and keep them interesting.   We love its range of speed.  It fits our very different speeds.  He's fast.  I'm not as fast.   Not that either of us could run 12 miles an hour - but this treadmill is capable of serving a runner who could.

What we love about the ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill

That it is iFit® Compatible*

This is by far the feature we love the most. How great is it to be able to run essentially anywhere in the world while at your own home on your treadmill?

Have you ever wondered what it's like to run in Barcelona? Just press start. Download a Google Maps™ route or create your own. This Compatible* treadmill automatically adjusts the incline and decline to recreate trails from Mongolia to Ecuador.

Customize your training with unlimited workouts designed by certified personal trainers. This ever-growing workout library offers programs that progress with you from beginner to marathoner.

SpaceSaver® Design with EasyLift™ Assist
We know you like your house to be clutter-free. So we invented a treadmill that folds up and out of the way when you're done with your workout. It totally rocked the fitness industry; but honestly, we're just glad you don't have to sacrifice your living space for your fitness habit anymore. And as an added bonus, we built in a powerful shock that helps you lift the deck with an easy push.

Compatible Music Port for iPod®*
Once you create your raving workout playlist, just plug your iPod® or MP3 player into our built-in sound system. Built with two 3-inch speakers, you can turn up the tunes and turn up the tempo. Experts have learned that we actually increase or decrease our pace to match the tempo of our tunes. Music has also been proven to lower perceived exertion. That's great news.

12 MPH QuickSpeed® Control
Not everybody runs at 12 miles per hour. But it's nice to know this treadmill can totally handle it. Thanks to a bigger motor size and faster flywheel gear ratio, the PRO 2000 rocks a top speed of 12 mph. Our in-home efficiency booster means you can run every day without using excessive amounts of electricity. And the convenient QuickSpeed® buttons let you adjust your intensity instantly, so you can stay focused through every step of your workout.

32 Workout Apps
Get the elite training you want with 32 built-in workout apps designed by a certified personal trainer. Each workout automatically adjusts your speed, incline, and decline to maximize your results.

What others are saying

"So far I am very pleased with my Pro 2000. The interface is simple, belt is smooth, speed and incline responsive, and shortcut keys useful. Being able to easily put the belt up when not in use is also great - especially in a house with a curious dog. My main criticism is that the preset programs are too advanced for a beginner, so I find myself only using the manual settings at this newbie stage. That being said, they are probably great for a more conditioned runner and I look forward to experimenting with them down the road."

Currently, The ProForm Pro 2000 can be purchased online with free shipping! Hop over here for more information.

10 Health Benefits of Cycling - Guest Post

Saturday, August 9, 2014

Cycling is tremendous fun for everyone from the youngest child to those that have reached retirement age. Not only are you doing something that is enjoyable, but you will also find that there are numerous health benefits that go along with cycling.

Get Rid of Unwanted Weight

As you likely know, taking up cycling is a great way to work off those unwanted calories and improve your waistline. If you decide to cycle for extended periods of time while making use of training aids like jawbone you will benefit to your health. Studies have shown that steady cycling can help people burn up to 300 calories per hour.

Improve Your Muscle Tone

Although you may not see much of a difference in your arms, your legs will certainly improve in terms of muscle tone.   With extended periods of cycling you will find that your legs will become quite noticeably toned. If you decide to stand up while pedaling off and on while you're cycling, you'll also find that your lower back and abs will also see great results.

Improve Your Joints

When you are cycling, the motion of pedaling is a constant up and down, which gives your knee and hip joints quite a workout. The motion of pedaling not only helps to lubricate the joints it also helps to strengthen them as well.

Cardiovascular Improvements

You simply cannot deny it, becoming a cyclist will lead to tremendous improvements in your overall cardiovascular health in addition to your endurance. Studies have shown that you can experience up to an 8% increase in your endurance after a month of consistently getting on a bicycle and cycling at least 30 minutes per day. Training tools can help monitor your progress.

Improved Co-ordination

Not only will you see improvement in your muscle tone, you'll also see improvement in the coordination that it takes to keep those muscles working in constant motion. This is especially important if you happen to cycle in heavy traffic and are moving between vehicles. You'll see a great improvement of your body-to-eye coordination.

Get Rid of Stress

You'll find that almost any physical activity is going to be a proven stress-reliever and there is no exception when it comes to cycling. The consistent exercise combined with muscle fatigue and calorie-burning abilities will all play a big contribution to reducing the overall stress levels that you experience.

Sleep Better

Because of the extensive physical activity that you will experience during the period of time that you're cycling during the day you will find that you'll be able to sleep better at night. Studies have been conducted on people that had a hard time sleeping; when they took up cycling for at least 30 minutes per day, they went to sleep in half the time than those who didn't take up cycling.

Reduce the Chance of Disease

When you take up cycling you'll be lowering the chance of you becoming sick while improving your overall health. Cycling will keep your heart in great health and reduce the chances of cardiovascular diseases by a significant amount.

Improved Motivation

When you take part in any type of physical activity, cycling included, you will be helping to boost your overall energy levels and the amount of motivation that you have. You'll have excellent results in this area if you are a very productive cyclist as you'll begin to feel much more confident about your skills due to the fact that you will eventually be able to cycle for longer periods of time than when you first started out as a cyclist.

Positive Behavior

You'll be taking part in a positive and productive hobby that you are able to do as many times if you like without any type of negative side effects.

As you can see there are many great benefits to cycling, so if you are looking for a great way to get some exercise and improve your overall health cycling is definitely worth looking into.

Review: Fitness and motivation with the funtastic Runtastic!

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Over the past few months, I have been keeping track of my fitness routine with Runtastic. What's Runtastic? I'm thrilled that you've asked - and I barely know where to begin!

Runtastic is a family of apps that track your workouts whether it be running, cycling, skiing or walking. In fact, they track more than just that short list. I'm routinely using the original Runtastic Pro, Road Bike Pro, Pedometer Pro, Squats Pro, Push-Ups Pro, Sit-Ups Pro and Six Pack.  You can view all of their available apps here.

The Runtastic app tracks sports and fitness activities – such as running, jogging, biking and walking – utilizing GPS technology to help you build healthy lifestyle habits and reach exercise goals! What’s more? Runtastic has recently been revamped to enhance your user experience! Take Runtastic out for a run and enjoy our new and improved app design and navigation, optimized features and new functionality.

When I first began reviewing Runtastic, I had no idea the depth of their network. I assumed it was much like other apps that I rotate between using when I run. It's not. Runtastic makes it possible to compare my workout history with my current sessions. It tracks my records and even sends me an encouraging email when I've set new personal records. Runtastic tracks distance, average speed, elevation, calories burned, pace and duration

At the moment, I'm exclusively using Runtastic apps to track my workouts and using Runtastic.com to record my sessions.  Though I'm a very active person - I think that Runtastic has encouraged me to be even more active.  It's encouraging to get an email from Runtastic letting me know that I've set another personal record.  I also love the weekly email letting me know know how much I've been active compared to previous weeks.  It always sends me straight to Runtastic.com to compare my workouts and the notes I left about the session.  Was it sunny, rainy or humid the day I broke a personal record?  What notes did I leave on the workout that took me a bit longer to complete?

I've found new "excuses" to be active. I'm always turning daily activities into an opportunity to work out (such as making the bed can be an abdominal workout) - but now, I've started to take over other household work that I had typically left alone. I think that Dan has enjoyed my volunteering to push-mow our lawn so that I can test the Pedometer Pro app and track my steps.  I had never once considered the amount of steps or mileage I could cover in doing this activity.  Now, I'm disappointed if I see that he has cut the grass before I've had a chance to get to it.

If you decide to check out Runtastic - add me as a friend!  Runtastic allows you to cheer each other on during workouts.  I love this feature!  I feel that I do better when I have people encouraging me to stay fit and this is such a neat thing to be able to do when you see that your friends are out and working hard to get fit or stay fit.

*I was provided the use of various Runtastic Pro apps and a Gold Membership for review purposes. As always, opinions are my own. Please read my disclosure policy here.
