We're gearing up to redecorate Savannah's room. There are a few items that she really wants included in the re-design - but she is adamant on a bench. She use to have a plastic toy box/bench that sat at the foot of hear bed, near her window. She had a blanket folded neatly on top of the bench and would sit in the sunlight and read from her favorite books. She remembers those moments fondly - and her daddy has brought up the memories he has of walking by and seeing that picture.

I think his recollection is what more prompts her to want another bench - but whatever the case, I think they are adorable. Summer Dresses for Girls

Day at the Beach - Holiday Toy List

In a way, this play set made me desperately wish we were at the beach! The bright colors really pulled me away from the gloomy winter days that we've been having and into the memories of our trips to the ocean.

Mexican Train Game - Holiday Toy List

I was so excited to finally have the chance to play the Mexican Train game. My dad has talked about it for several years after having a co-worker introduce him to it. He loves this game and hadn't been able to find the 'right one'. He had wanted all of us to play this for a family-game-night, but I guess it just isn't the same if you don't have the original. Now, we have the original Mexican Train game and all is right with the world.

It's been quite a while since I've played any sort of game that involved dominoes and Joey heard the word 'train', so he was in! The game is fun and a little addicting. It can also last for quite a while just depending on how things go. So, do prepare yourself for that!

The object of the game is to keep your train moving all the way to victory! Lay out a chain of dominoes (called trains) from the center domino piece, or add pieces to the group’s common chain (The Mexican Train). The first player to finish playing wins! There are many ways to block the trains along the way – so beware of obstacles!

SpyX Roll-In Spy Bug and Long Range Walkie Talkies

Joey believes that he is crafty, clever and sneaky. At the age of 7, he hasn't mastered being crafty enough to fool mom and dad but he enjoys it. As sneaky as he is, or believes himself to be, I wasn't sure if he would fully enjoy a set of SpyX toys. They were something that I would have loved as a kid but I didn't know if kids these days were really into walkie talkies and spying on their parents. Oh was I wrong. So wrong.

We recently received a pair of SpyX Long Range Walkie Talkies and a SpyX Roll-In Spy Bug. The first day, Savannah and Joey played with the walkie talkies nonstop. They hid from each other and used them in the basement. They took them outside and pretended to be on a secret mission of some sort. At night, they took them to bed and chatted for a bit before mom and dad decided it was time to sleep.

I guess that with the use of cell phones, I hadn't imaged that kids would find walkie talkies so neat. The SpyX Long Range Walkie Talkies have become a prized toy. I like that it's something they can play with together, bond and create memories. I also like that it helps to expand their imaginative play.

It was also nice to bring them along when I run on a local track. It kept the kids busy as they ran around and tested the signal strength and began a new "mission". Unfortunately, the walkie talkies did not work from one end of our small town to the other end. They were disappointed in that - but hey, from one end of the neighborhood to the other was pretty good.

They also had a lot of fun with the SpyX Roll-In Spy Bug.  Oh how sneaky they thought they were when they'd slowly place it in the room where adults were and sliver out the door.  Their giggles and laughter were priceless.  The SpyX Roll-In Spy Bug was pretty interesting.  They could place or roll the bug in it's desired location and then, using the receiver, listen to conversation up to 50 feet away.

Robot Turtles - Teaching Kids Coding Concepts

We've spent the past few days playing with and enjoying Robot Turtles™ by ThinkFun®.  Robot Turtles is the first board game to teach coding skills to kids as young as four!  Teaches coding skills to children?  Yes!

I was intrigued when Robot Turtles was first introduced to me because it is very important to me that I keep my kids up-to-date with technology and instill in them an entrepreneurial spirit. Not only do I want them to be able to use technology - but I want them to have an in-depth understanding of it. So, I was fascinated by the thought of using a board game to teach coding/programming concepts.

• Your child then uses the playing cards to navigate you through the board in an effort to help the turtle reach the jewel. The cards direct you either left, right or forward.
• You then follow your child's command and move closer to the jewel.

Your child will sharpen their problem-solving skills when they encounter obstacles along the way that they must maneuver around to help their turtle reach the jewel.

Summer Must Have: Ziggle by Radio Flyer

Even though we are still experiencing a few chilly (yet very sunny) days - Spring is here and we are enjoying being outdoors! I think Joey was nearing the moment where he would begin bouncing off the walls if the never-ending days of Spring and Summer didn't arrive.

Educational items for the kids

It has always been very important to me that my children learn - and that they enjoy themselves while learning! We have had many wonderful toys that have aided them and been a great supplement to their educational journey.

Savannah and Joe are especially thrilled when they can use an electronic device such as a computer or tablet to play a learning game. Joey has worked very well with various Vtech products to learn letters, sounds and number. He really likes to borrow my phone to play on education apps while we are out running errands. Though I don't mind allowing my kids to use my phone for educational games - I always worry what may come of my phone! One drop could be its demise.

As much as he enjoys my smart phone - I enjoy that there are electronic tablet options for kids - like the Vtech InnoTab! These would make great gifts for my little nieces and nephews! I'm so amazed at how well young children can use devices such as smartphones and tables. Yet, if you're like me - you're always worried that they will click on the web browser and inadvertently find something not made for children's eyes. Which is just another reason to get them something geared just for them and their educational level.

Dollie & Me

I love that Savannah has such a sweet and nurturing spirit. She is always mothering the younger children or tending to kittens that come her way. She has many toy diaper bags, receiving blankets, bottles and baby carriers.  All of which, I am not allowed to donate or give away.  Her bunk bed is filled with stuffed animals and dolls. She brushes their hair and straightens their outfits so that they are clean and tidy.

She was beyond thrilled when she was able to choose a doll from Dollie & Me to be her very own. In fact, everyday after she chose her doll - she would ask if her doll was coming that day.

There were nine Dollies to choose from and Savannah chose the Sassy and Classy Dollie. Her favorite features are the beautiful curls and cute outfit.  The Dollies are 18 inches tall and are able to wear the clothes from the American Girl collection.  Savannah has an American Girl doll and loved switching the outfits and having extra clothes for her new Dollie.

I hadn't heard of Dollie & Me prior to this Summer - but wish that I had.  The Dollies are made extremely well and at just $39 per Dollie they are very affordable.  Check out the Dollies here!

Savannah's Dollie doesn't yet have a name - several have been thought about but haven't seemed quite right.  However, this hasn't slowed Dollie's adventures!  So far, she has gone with us to piano lessons, the grocery store, clothes shopping, the apple orchard, the pumpkin patch and swim lessons.  Like a good mother, Savannah even buckles her safely in the backseat while in the car.  That melts my heart!  I love it!

I'm sure that many of her dolls will eventually be discard and forgotten.  I know that Dollie, whatever her name ends up being, will be one that is kept and finds a place in her keepsake trunk.

Oxybul Wooden Railway Track

My son loves anything that is remotely related to trains. He doesn't often ask for a lot of toys - but he does want me to purchase any and all train sets that I can find. I'm not a fan of buying many toys that won't last long or stand up well against all the use he gets out of his toys. So, I love that most train sets are sturdy and well made.

 He is currently fascinated with his newest train set - the Oxybul Wooden 29-piece Railway Track. Being made of wood - it is very sturdy and gives it that classic toy appeal.  I like that the set is made well and that it is a toy we will most likely save back for him to have - so that he can someday share it (maybe) in his future home with his children.

He loves every aspect of this set. It came with little wooden animals that he can haul to and fro. It also has a tunnel and a bridge! He loves tunnels and bridges. He is also fascinated with the pieces of rail that came with attached greenery. I thought that was a very cute touch!

We've had this railway set for a few weeks now and I think it has only been disassembled when I've made him take it apart so that I could vacuum.  In fact, I should probably look into getting him some type of train table so that he won't have to take it apart.  So that it can always be assembled and waiting on him.

Tidmouth Sheds Roundhouse

Joey, my 5 year old, loves anything to do with trains.  Most importantly, he loves Thomas the Tank Engine!  He can build a railroad out of anything and has usually turned our living room into a train station. 

He designs train tracks out of paper if he has to!  His imagination will not be stifled by lack of toys.  At one point, he turned a shoebox into Tidmouth Sheds.

But now, this lucky little boy actually has the Tidmouth Sheds that he has been begging us to purchase.  When I was his age, I daydreamed of and wished for the kitchen play sets I saw in catalogs.  He has spent a lot of time asking for and dreaming of owning a wooden Tidmouth Sheds with wooden tracks.

When I had an offer to receive and review this dream toy of his, I kept it quiet until it came in the mail.  I think I was as thrilled with his reaction as he was over the toy!  He opened it and kept gasping "Oh mommy!  Oh mommy!"

Since then, I have found Tidmouth Sheds all over our house!  Apparently, Tidmouth Sheds belongs in the hallway, living room, bathroom, dining room table and my son's bed.  Because why wouldn't you cuddle with it and the wooden tracks at night?

I'm also thrilled that it is very well made!  I would love for this to be one of the toys we keep for his children - and it is sturdy enough to last that long.  Joey says he is going to make a movie with it.  I'm not sure what that means exactly - except that it's so fantastic we must take video of it!

Comfortable Kids Cushions!

A few weeks ago, we received two of the cutest cushions! I wasn't really sure what to do with them when I received the review request - but they were adorable and I wanted to try them.

Henhat.com offers a selection of adorable pillows and cushions for children.  They are so soft and comfortable - I wouldn't mind having a large one for myself.  Actually I would love it if they made a body pillow!

The owner of Henhat was so kind to send a cushion for each child - allowing them both to test them out and enjoy using them together.

Our kitchen table and chairs are solid wood - with no padding on the seats. I guess that can mean they are a little uncomfortable to sit on at times. I don't really notice that. Though, the kids are always bringing soft blankets to place beneath them as they sit at the table.




Instead of the blankets, they've now been bringing their adorable cushions with them.  It works perfectly.  Their shape fit our chairs great.

Not only have the kids loved bringing their Henhat cushions with them at meal time - they carry them around and use them for a myriad of activities. The cushions have a little handle that make it easy for them to tote these adorable necessities with them throughout the day.   The handle is made of the same fabric as the outer cover - so it is soft and does not take away from the design or use of the cushion.

I'm not sure that these items were created to also be pillows - but Savannah and Joey also use them for that at bedtime and when they curl up on the couch.

I've purchased other pillows for the kids in the past that were not easy to clean.  I love that I can effortlessly remove these cushions (which the kids keep using as pillows) from their case and launder them.

Plasmacar Fun!

I'm not sure who has enjoyed our recent addition, a Plasmacar, the most. My son, my daughter or my husband. A Plasmacar is a plastic toy 'car' that is propelled by moving the steering wheel, which is attached to two pivoting wheels touching the ground, back and forth. The Plasmacar uses inertia, centrifugal force, gravity and friction to move the car and its passenger forward.

No batteries are required and it is simple to learn how to get the car to begin moving. It did take a moment for the children to figure out the best movement for the steering wheel - but in no time they were driving it up and down the sidewalk. A small section of our home has wood flooring, and the Plasmacar would work fine on that, as well as any smooth surface indoors. So it is a great gift for any time of year!

I do have an incriminating photo of my husband on the Plasmacar, but I promised I wouldn't post it. He is 6' 3" and was able to sit on it and get it to move - so, any child who is old enough to climb onto the Plasmacar could probably work the car.

Veggie Tales: The Penniless Princess - Review and Giveaway!

I have enjoyed Veggie Tales from the moment I was first introduced to them in college.  Yes, college.  A floor-mate of mine had begun singing the very silly songs by Larry {the cucumber} while we were entertaining the younger children after church one evening.

The kids seemed to immediately know what she was singing - as they began to sing along with her in chorus... "Where is my hairbrush".  Later I asked her what they had been singing and she introduced me to Veggie Tales.

Admittedly, I bought a few of the VHS tapes and watched them.  My kids now watch the same tapes along with the new Veggie Tales DVDs.

So, they were thrilled when The Penniless Princess arrived at our door last week.  We watched it for our weekly pizza and movie night!  What a great addition to a family night!
