Myrtle Beach Trip Guide 2013

Thursday, July 11, 2013

This Summer, we packed up a 2013 Mazda 5 and headed to one of our favorite destinations - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! We vacationed on its beautiful beaches in 2011 and had been dreaming of returning. In fact, as soon as our family vacation was over in 2012 - Joey asked if we could head to Myrtle Beach.

As a mother, one of my biggest concerns when planning our family vacations is finding a location that is family-friendly. I want the kids to enjoy themselves and for me to feel comfortable with them being there. We have found that Myrtle Beach is a great fit for our family and we want to share some of our favorite attractions with you! Note that for some of the locations listed below - you will need to make reservations.

I hope the below list of attractions, resorts and restaurants help you to better plan your Myrtle Beach vacation!

SkyWheel at Myrtle Beach

When I think of a beach vacation, I imagine waves splashing onto the sand along with a clear view of the coastline and everything that surrounds it.  On this trip to Myrtle Beach - I was able to find a beach view like no other!  If you're planning a trip to Myrtle Beach - you must plan a flight on the SkyWheel! At 187 feet tall, the SkyWheel offers a magnificent view of the Myrtle Beach coastline as well as the many shops and restaurants that line the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade.

I'll admit, I was a little nervous as the wheel began to turn and our gondola made it's way up into the sky above Myrtle Beach.  Yes, I love roller coasters and other thrill rides - but there's something about a Ferris Wheel that always has me second-guessing my decision to climb aboard. Yet after the first rotation, I'm usually much more settled and relaxed.  Look, I even smiled for a picture!

The kids loved it!  We were able to see pretty far down the coastline and across the water.  Joey tried to see all the way to the other side of the ocean.  I guess he'll soon understand the vastness of the Atlanic.

The view was simply amazing!  We had a difficult time deciding if we wanted to ride the SkyWheel during the day when the sun would be out and we could see more into the distance or if we wanted to ride it at night and enjoy the multicolored lights on the SkyWheel.  I think we would have enjoyed it during either time and experience!  I'm sure they are equally breathtaking!

If you're feeling especially adventurous - the SkyWheel offers a VIP flight!   The VIP gondola has four leather seats, a glass floor, double flight, free t-shirts and more!  Yes, a glass floor!
