Summer Skin Care for Children

Monday, June 6, 2011

Today I 'finally' set up the pool for the kiddos. Not a few moments into the task I could feel the sweat building up along my hair line and the sun's rays scorching on my shoulders. It was a hot day!

It took several hours for the pool to fill... yes, several. hours.

The kiddos stood and stared at the pool. They begged to jump in. They lifted the hose and aimed it at each other. All while the sun beat down on them.

It's time to prep for summer skin care and prevent harmful sunburns!

The best way to prevent a sunburn is to avoid sun exposure.

Infants:

Dress infants in lightweight long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and brimmed hats that shade the neck to prevent sunburn. When applying sunscreen us one with at least 15 SPF However,

If your infant gets a sunburn, apply a cold compresses to the area.

Older Children:

The first, and best, line of defense against harmful ultraviolet radiation exposure is covering up. Have your child wear a hat with a three-inch brim or a bill facing forward and sunglasses. The character sunglasses are cute, and my children own quite a few pairs. However, look for sunglasses that provide protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

On both sunny and cloudy days use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater that protects against UVA and UVB rays. I actually use an SPF of 50 on my children when we are doing activities such as swimming or visiting an amusement park. You should reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.

If possible stay in the shade and limit sun exposure during the peak intensity hours - between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm

Use extra caution near water and sand as they reflect UV rays and may result in sunburn more quickly.

Stroller - A Spring & Summer must have!

Monday, May 2, 2011

The Spring and Summer are filled with family trips and walks. Our trips include amusement parks, museums and the zoo. We also do a lot of walking/jogging around town as well as city and state parks.

Having little ones.... my must have for this time of year is a stroller! A good stroller! I own several and each of them seem to have their own use/purpose.

Well, they are always used to transport kiddies aroud. However, they do much more than that. They make moving around much easier! They are also very useful for carrying around the items that the kiddies are going to need while we are out and about.

So, what type of strollers do I recommend:

- Jogging Stroller

{great for jaunts around the neighborhood}

- Double Stroller {great when more than one kiddo will end up with tired legs}

{great for the littlest passenger}

- Umbrella Stroller {great for keeping in the car for any last minute stroller needs}

A great place to find some of these strollers is Cymax!
