Whiter teeth for the new year! Luster Pro Light Review

Monday, January 5, 2015

This morning, Savannah asked me why my teeth were so white! She seemed amazed, confused and curious as she leaned toward me and examined my mouth. I drink a lot of coffee and love sweetened tea which means that I have to put some effort into keeping my teeth from staining. I use whitening treatments and I consistently use whitening toothpastes. This month, I set out to brighten my smile for the new year and find out how to get whiter teeth fast! So I swapped out my beloved whitening strips for a quicker method. It's difficult to completely combat the staining that my favorite drinks cause - but I've finally found a great set of products to counteract the effects of my java habit.

The first is Luster Premium White's Pro Light. I've seen similar products and have always hesitated to purchase them since the whitening strips were working find and I wasn't sure how a light was going to whiten my teeth. Now I wish I had tried this a long time ago because I could have had a much whiter smile in just 60 minutes!

Luster Pro Light

  • Visibly whitens teeth in as little as 30 minutes
  • Works 2X faster than strips and trays
  • Does not cause tooth sensitivity
  • Enamel Safe
  • Includes flexible whitening options so you can whiten on your schedule
  • Features the same light-activated whitening technology found in dental offices
  • Includes a gentle, cleaning mouth rinse to pre-treat teeth and a whitening gel with active dental peroxide to whiten surface and deep stains

You can choose a time frame that fits your needs and schedule. I opted to whiten my teeth in a one hour period. This means that for one hour, I did up to 20 of the 2 minute treatments. I actually lost count and may have only completed 18 or 19, but it didn't matter. The results were enough to satisfy me and not worry about 1 or 2 missing treatments.

3 Easy Steps to a Beautifully Whiter Smile:

  1. Rinse with the Accelerator Mouth Rinse
  2. Brush with the Super Whitener Gel
  3. Apply the Activating Whitening Light
Repeat steps 1-3 as-needed to achieve your desired whitening results

I loved the ease of using Luster Pro Light but was worried that it would irritate my teeth or cause them to be sensitive, especially since I did the 1 hour whitening treatment.  I haven't had any sensitivity issues with it and love the quick results.

Where can I buy Luster Pro Light?

You can find Luster Pro Light on Amazon! Click here to find our more about Luster Pro light and other items offered by Luster Premium White.

Mexican Train Game - Holiday Toy List

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

I was so excited to finally have the chance to play the Mexican Train game. My dad has talked about it for several years after having a co-worker introduce him to it. He loves this game and hadn't been able to find the 'right one'. He had wanted all of us to play this for a family-game-night, but I guess it just isn't the same if you don't have the original. Now, we have the original Mexican Train game and all is right with the world.

It's been quite a while since I've played any sort of game that involved dominoes and Joey heard the word 'train', so he was in! The game is fun and a little addicting. It can also last for quite a while just depending on how things go. So, do prepare yourself for that!

The object of the game is to keep your train moving all the way to victory! Lay out a chain of dominoes (called trains) from the center domino piece, or add pieces to the group’s common chain (The Mexican Train). The first player to finish playing wins! There are many ways to block the trains along the way – so beware of obstacles!

Want to try the Mexican Train game for yourself? You can find the Mexican Train game by Tactic on Amazon. Mexican Train Game

Tire Maintenance & $50 Giveaway with Sears Auto Center!

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

"This is a sponsored post, I am a Sears blogger, though all opinions are my own."

Though I love vehicles - driving them, admiring them, talking about them - there is a lot of information that I simply don't know. I thought I knew about tire maintenance, until a recent trip to Sears Auto Center. There's an entire world around tires, how to care for them and how to choose them. Since I do a lot of traveling - I'm extremely grateful for finally having all of this explained to me.

I'm loving being a part of the #SACRoadWarriors team and getting to spend time with the crew at my local Sears Auto Center. They have been amazing and on my first trip walked me through their Vehicle Intake process and the necessities of tire maintenance. When you bring your vehicle to Sears Auto Center, they will perform a Courtesy Inspection - courtesy means it's free! During the Courtesy Inspection they will check things such as belts and hoses, fluids, filters, tire wear and tear amongst other things.

Now, here is where I learned that tire maintenance is far more extensive than most of us know.  Tires are such a critical part of your vehicle and maintaining them properly is a must.  I knew that I should check the air pressure in my tires and have them rotated (about every 5,000 miles) and that they should generally look as if they are in good condition.

Signs of an impending blowout can include:

  • Bulges in the tire
  • Cracking in the sidewall of the tire
  • Low/no tread. Tread is lower than 2/32 of an inch deep.
  • Incorrect tire pressure

Did you know that where you live can play a large role in how you maintain your tires?  Here, in Indiana, the weather is cold, them warm, then oh so humid - this does a number on your tires and can cause pressure to fluctuate.

There are many other things to check when maintaining your tires. I never knew there was a difference in the tires between my sedan and my mini-van. They need different size tires for different purposes.  Every tire that is produced, has an intended purpose.  It's made for a specific type of vehicle and conditions.  Your vehicle's manual will let you know what size of tire it requires.  The tires will have its size printed on its sidewall.  The Sear's Tire Size Decoded information is very helpful in finding out if you have the right tires!  On a side note, I did know that large trucks needed different tires than my sedan - so, I guess I wasn't completely in the dark.

Here in Indiana, winter is on its way.  This means that you need to check the tread on your tire and perhaps even buy winter tires.  Did you that it's possible to buy your snow tires too early and wear the tread down too fast that way?  See, so much to know!

All-season tires are built to handle a variety of weather conditions, everything from dry roads to wet roads and light snow. However, the rubber with which all-season tires are made is not intended to withstand extreme cold. All-season tires can harden in low temperatures, lessening the traction between your tires and the road.

Winter tires, on the other hand, use special rubber compounds that stay pliable in the cold to give them better grip and improved braking capabilities, even in extreme conditions. Also called snow tires, winter tires are built specifically to perform in winter conditions like severe cold, ice, slush and snow. They use siping, a series of slits in the tread, to increase the number of edges that make contact with the ground. Greater tread depth allows for flexing and helps channel snow and slush across the tire’s surface, away from the contact patch.

Radio Flyer 2-in-1 Journey Wagon - Holiday Toy List!

The Radio Flyer 2-in-1 Journey Wagon is one of my top picks for this year's Holiday Toy List. It's versatile, easy to store and transport - and the kids love the different seating options.

Having a 2-in-1 Journey wagon comes in handy whether you have one, two or three children in tow.  The versatility allows the bigger kids to pile in when the seats are folded down or we can bring the seats up and safely buckle the two-year-old. It give him a place to comfortably sit and feel like a big boy with his own seat and cup holder. I like that this model also has cup holders on the front of the wagon for my water bottle, smoothie or coffee.

When I was a youngster, I had a Radio Flyer Wagon as well. I loved my wagon! It served as a vehicle (I would make my brother and sister push it from behind while I steered it with the handle), I used it as a "pioneer wagon" where I made bricks (which were actually just globs of mud), and it was a tent once I stacked outdoor furniture and plastic swimming pools over it. My fondest memories were of my mother pulling my siblings and I in it as we walked (she walked and tugged and pulled) to Grandma's house.

My children have enjoyed playing with Radio Flyer 2-in-1 Journey Wagon, riding it in, pulling their younger cousins around the yard and using it for trips to the library. Imagine it loaded with books! I think Savannah feels very much like Matilda walking down the sidewalk with a wagon full of books behind her.

It's also great for toting items (and kiddos) around during trips to the playground, park, amusement parks, festivals, fairs, etc...

The The Radio Flyer 2-in-1 Journey Wagon features:

  • 2 wagons in 1-seats fold up or down for a comfortable ride or maximum hauling capacity
  • Seatbelts for added safety,8.5" quiet ride tires
  • 4 cup holders for easy access to drinks and snacks
  • Extra-long handle folds over for easy storage
  • Extra under seat storage

You can snatch up your Radion Flyer 2-in-1 Journey Wagon on Amazon!

Miracle Marathon: Why I Won’t Quit

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Most of the parents and kids we’re helping would probably love a day off from cancer. They’d probably love to “just call it done” when it comes to the daily treatment regimens for Cystic Fibrosis. There are moms right now whose babies came into this world too early, who would love to give their tiny daughter a break from her fight to simply keep breathing.

But they can’t quit, because it’s not an option. I honor them today and everyday by not quitting on them. I came up with a couple of fresh asks that I can put on my social media accounts, and I’m redoubling my efforts as we head into the last stretch of Miracle Marathon.

Memfy – Saving cherished memories

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

I’ve always enjoyed documenting and preserving the various stages of my life. I’ve kept some sort of journal for as long as I can remember. I’ve also held onto cherished memories with pictures. It began in high school with my very first camera and computer. I captured moments with my friends and saved my photos in albums. I documented various events with online journals and now on my blog. My favorite part of all the saved memories are the pictures I’ve kept. They tell a story. They are a unique peek into the past. I hope to have them around for as long as I am. Yet, I know that there are many ways in which I could possibly lose them. Fire, disaster or forgetfulness could leave these precious memories behind forever.

I’ve spent some time seeking ways in which I can back-up and help ensure that I don’t lose these cherished pictures are kept safe. I’m excited to have found Memfy. Memfy is an online microdiary platform that allows users to record short memories or Memfies about anything you want to remember in the future. You are able to archive major life milestones or those small moments that you just don’t want to forget – such as when your toddler says something hilariously adorable. It also allows memories to be recorded privately. Privacy can be difficult to come by in today’s digital space – that was a big plus for me.

There were several years where my mother and I continuously send the same email back and forth in an effort to record the funny things that all the grandchildren had said. With Memfy, we can much more easily record and share these moments with each other. I look forward to going and adding all of those memories to Memfy and creating an amazing timeline of our life events.

I love that Memfy will soon be available as an app. There have often been moments that I wanted to record – but didn’t have time to log onto a computer to properly type or upload the picture, video or quote. Being able to quickly update my cache of memories with my phone would be fantastic!

Want to support Memfy’s journey to becoming an app? Check out the options available here.

Goodbye Mantis - Hello Rougarou!

Saturday, September 20, 2014

I'm going to just say it. I was a little disappointed when I heard that Cedar Point's new coaster, Rougarou, is Mantis (view Mantis POV video below) with a new set of trains. I had desperately hoped that the Mantis' last stand this October would mean that the ride was going to be dismantled and delivered to a different Cedar Fair park. I wishfully imagined that it would be Kings Island which just so happens to be the nearest amusement park to me. I had dreamed of it being a wonderful throw-back to the days of King Cobra at Kings Island.

I find myself pleasantly relieved that "Mantis" will actually remain at Cedar Point. It will receive a new name and a new set of trains that will give it a new experience. Joey, my 7 year old, is thrilled as this means he will be able to still ride the track that he wasn't tall enough for this past Summer. It won't be quite the same experience - but he's excited.

Cedar Point, The Roller Coaster Capital of the World!®, will introduce a dynamically new riding experience when it unleashes Rougarou™ in the spring of 2015!

Named after a terrifying werewolf-like creature in French folklore, Rougarou [roo-guh-roo] feeds on screams and lurks in and around the swampy lagoon at the center of the park, shared with other coasters like Iron Dragon and Top Thrill Dragster.

Rougarou’s floorless trains will take riders on an epic journey at speeds reaching 60 mph as their feet dangle just inches above the track and the murky waters below. The trains will be manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, Monthey, Switzerland, the same team behind rides like Raptor and GateKeeper, and will transform the ride experience dramatically while utilizing the structure and track of the former Mantis roller coaster.

The ride begins with a climb to the top of the 145-foot-tall first hill, providing amazing views of the Cedar Point skyline. After reaching the apex, the trains will make a 180-degree turn to the right and plummet 137 feet, at a 52-degree angle, to within inches above the water. Thrill-seekers caught in Rougarou’s grasp will then be flipped upside-down by a 119-foot-tall vertical loop, spun around a 103-foot-tall dive loop, whipped around a highly-banked 360-degree turn and then twisted upside-down again by the world’s only inclined loop on a floorless coaster, angled at a wicked 45 degrees. Just when guests think the ride is over, the steel beast will take them through a 360-degree flat spin, tight and twisty turns and a figure-eight finale. Riders must be 54” tall to ride Rougarou.

“Rougarou is going to be a fantastic addition to our coaster lineup and our guests are going to love it,” said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “With the swampy waters below, the vibrant colors of the supports and track, lighting and other effects, it will be a ride like no other at the park.”

Even though my hopes were dashed - I'm excited to see the ride revamped. I'll miss the experience that a stand-up coaster offers - and I hope Cedar Fair will once again offer it in the area in the near future.

Robot Turtles - Teaching Kids Coding Concepts

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

We've spent the past few days playing with and enjoying Robot Turtles™ by ThinkFun®.  Robot Turtles is the first board game to teach coding skills to kids as young as four!  Teaches coding skills to children?  Yes!

I was intrigued when Robot Turtles was first introduced to me because it is very important to me that I keep my kids up-to-date with technology and instill in them an entrepreneurial spirit. Not only do I want them to be able to use technology - but I want them to have an in-depth understanding of it. So, I was fascinated by the thought of using a board game to teach coding/programming concepts.

“Learning how to code is an essential 21st century skill and not just for designing apps and video games,” said Bill Ritchie, ThinkFun President and Co-Founder. “You learn how to break big problems into small steps, work backwards and visualize multiple solutions. You learn to persevere, to experiment and be patient. Robot Turtles teaches these life essentials to the youngest kids who stand to benefit the most.”

In programming - the programmer tells the computer what to do using code. The computer then follows the commands set forth by the programmer. In Robot Turtles, the child plays the role of programmer while a parent or older sibling acts as the computer and follows commands given by the programmer.

How to Play

  • Your child chooses one of four colorful turtles and a corresponding jewel.
  • Your child then places them in different spots on the game board.
  • Your child then uses the playing cards to navigate you through the board in an effort to help the turtle reach the jewel. The cards direct you either left, right or forward.
  • You then follow your child's command and move closer to the jewel.

Your child will sharpen their problem-solving skills when they encounter obstacles along the way that they must maneuver around to help their turtle reach the jewel.

Robot Turtles was awarded a “Best Toy for Kids” by the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association.  Robot Turtles began as a Kickstarter sensation. The goal to raise $25,000 and produce 1,000 games turned into $631,000 and 25,000 games as passionate parents from 65 countries kicked in support to make Robot Turtles a reality, and the game sold out. Robot Turtles is now available at Target stores nationwide and on Amazon and Target.com.

Effortless Meals with Walmart & Coca Cola

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Thank you to Coca-Cola for sponsoring this post!

Summer is the busiest time of year for our family.  I always, naively, believe that Summer will be relaxing and I'll have time to try a dozen new recipes and bake all sorts of pies.  Yet - somehow - life always gets in the way.  We have baseball games nearly four nights a week, family reunions, vacations, special trips - and the list goes on.

It's also a little bit more difficult for me to want to be in the kitchen planning and preparing a large meal each night during the Summer.  I've little time to do it - and I'd rather spend as much time outdoors with the kids as I possibly can.  These days go by much too quickly!

So, my time and energy are each stretched to the limit during this time of year.  That's why I've very much enjoyed having the opportunity to take advantage of the Effortless Meals from Coca-Cola and Walmart.  I think it actually spoiled me - just a little.

Coca-Cola and Walmart introduce "effortless meals", a delicious, easy and affordable meal solution for busy moms everywhere. Located exclusively in the Walmart Deli.

Busy day at the ballpark?  No time to make a meal?  Would rather spend an extra hour at the park than go home and prep for dinner?  No problem!  Stop by Walmart, pick up a Rotisserie Chicken Meal (my favorite), a Pizza Meal (the kid's favorite) or a Sandwich Meal.  Remember to add a Coca-Cola to unlock My Coke Rewards Bonus Points!

The Effortless Meals were also great for impromptu trips to the park. Meaning, I hadn't planned ahead and had not prepared any type of picnic-type foods.  The kids and I could quickly run into Walmart, choose our favorite sandwich with chips and Coca-Cola - then head to the park for an afternoon of fun!

We also took several trips this Summer and used the Effortless Meals to help with our food budget during travel.  It was cheaper for us to grab an Effortless Meal (and faster) than other places we might have chosen to eat.  We could pick up a wraps, salads, chicken and take it back to our hotel for a night 'in'.  It's nice having another budget-friendly food option to add to our travel ideas.  Savannah and Joey weren't sure if they would enjoy the wraps - but they loved them and keep asking me to make them at home!

If you're a part of the My Coke Rewards program - make sure to bundle your meals to Unlock MCR Bonus Points!

Trendy Stroller/Crossover Bag - The Fiona by Baby Cargo

Sunday, July 27, 2014

When I first became a mom, strollers and accessories weren't nearly as amazing as they've become over the last few years. The worst part of using a stroller then - was finding a neat and tidy way of bringing along items usually reserved for the diaper bag.

I searched the stores for convenient totes or bags that might attach to or hang nicely from the handle bars - but eventually settle for any that weren't too big, bulky or could fit in the stroller's basket without needing forced or smashed. This Summer, I've found the Fiona Mini Stroller Bag from Baby Cargo.

Baby Cargo is a new line of modern baby gear inspired by iconic architecture, chic fashion and fresh interior design. We offer conscientious parents the most user friendly, premium line of strollers, stroller accessories, play spaces and space saver high chairs to live comfortably and safely and stylishly in the modern home--all at an affordable price.

What I've liked the most about this bag is its slim form.  It attaches nicely to the handles of any stroller and stays out of the way as I push the stroller along.  One side has two elastic pockets that can hold two bottles, sippy cups or water bottles.  That side also has a flap pocket as well as a zip pocket where I could store my keys and phone.  The reverse side has a mesh pocket where we kept granola bars, snacks and other items.  The mesh pocket is also great for holding diapers and it comes with a matching changing pad.

Another fun use for the Fiona bag - is as a crossover bag! Zip the Fiona closed and use it as your very own bag. It's slim, sleek and trendy! I've enjoyed using it as a crossover bag on casual walks, trips to the fair, festivals and parks. The Fiona is available in four colors. I loved the Cool Aqua and Moonless Night. It also comes in Slate and Deep Ash. Which color is your favorite?

Check out more items from Baby Cargo - we thought the Georgi Bag looked pretty awesome as well!

It's not just another day...

Thursday, January 2, 2014

I stumbled upon this video quite by accident this morning. I'm very grateful that this moment happened for me. As I plan my new year and the tasks begin to mount - I often allow my mornings and evenings to pass much too quickly. Soon, the joy of a simple day is lost and I wonder where the time and pleasure in life has gone.

"You think this is just another day in your life. It's not just another day. It's the one day that's given to you, today."

A Moving Art original short. This inspirational video was well responded at TED conferences and filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg motivates those around him as happiness is revealed. Spoken word and music montage created and composed by Gary Malkin. Narration written and spoken by Brother David Steindl-Rast.

Veggie Tales: Princess and the Pop Star

Monday, August 1, 2011

It's a royal switcheroo! Princess Poppyseed’s life on her family’s farm is far from the glamorous world of her favorite pop singer Vanna Banana. While Princess milks the cows and dreams of a life on stage, Vanna has her own dreams of a life far from the hectic pace of stardom that leaves her feeling alone and lonely. On a chance meeting at a playground, Vanna and Princess cross paths and realize they look almost exactly alike, which leads to the crazy notion that maybe they could switch lives! In a flash, the girls’ secret plan is launched and Princess is whisked to her new life as a pop star while Vanna gets to live her dream of a life away from the pressure of fame! As Princess tries to live up to the demands of being a diva and Vanna learns how to milk the cows, things don’t go as smoothly as they would like! As each girl realizes the life they longed for doesn’t fulfill all their dreams, they learn that the life God gave them is the one for which they were uniquely and lovingly designed.

We always enjoy watching Veggie Tales in our home, I think this probably the kids favorite so far!  Savannah loves to sing as she's busy around the house or playing outside... I think she especially loved the similarity in the Vanna Banana's name compared to hers.

What a great way to relay the message to your kids that the grass may see greener on the other side of the fence... but everyone has their own difficulties to overcome.
